Research into the social and politcal ares in the uk for 1970 and 2009

1970's

In the 1970's the conservative party were in power. Their immigration policy was to allow people with work permits and relatives already in the UK, to move into the country. At this point in time there was a high unemployment in the public, in 1972 the figure of unemployment was 1,023,583. This suggests that people looked for an easy way to get money which inevitability resulted in the increase in crime.

2009

In 2009 the labour party was in government and their immigration policy allowed free roaming for people in countries that were part of the European union. The population did increase greatly and this allowed more people to work in the UK, however the unemployment figure in the UK did increase to 2,350,000. Also the crime rate fell by 7%  from the following year
